Thrustin in our Sickles!! Feb. 26, 2012

Hey everybody!!! :) It's Elder Devey, and I am a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Oh sorry just used to saying that with my name all the time!! haha What a wonderful blessing and sacred privilege that it is though to state such a sentence!!  How is everyone?! Better be muy fantastico!!! I know so!! Hope all is well and that everyone is doing very good!! I miss you all very much and pray for you often! Please do so for me because I need it that's for sure! ha It's great to be with you once again and I am so grateful for all your prayers, your love and support! So thank you all for all that you do!!!:)

Well first of all congratulations again to the Honeymooners Amber and Russell the Muscle! Miss ya guys and love ya!! Though I haven't met you Russell we're brothers now so love ya heaps! And Happy Birthday coming up here soon Ambie Bambie!!! Love ya!!!

Shall we? Let's get down to business before the Huns arrive aye?! :) So this week was AWESOME!!! In many ways... But very rough in others.. So we'll start with the beginning!!

Last pday was fun, kinda! We haven't really had much of a pday as of late! Had to clean our car and do many other errands for zone conference.  This last week was the fastest of my life!!! It absolutely flew by!! We never sat down or anything I swear! Just moving constantly until bed time.  I could say though as the great Sister Porter used to say "deserve your pillow" I feel as if we have been as of late! And that's a good feeling! I hope I can withold that feeling and satisfaction of "no regrets" throughout the remainder of my sojourn here in Aeotearoa!! :) So on Tues we had a trade off.  And I was with a brand new Elder from Sri Lanka! ha that was fun!! Not much english yet but it was a fun experience being with him. Weds we had our Zone conference with a few other city zones.  I'll send a pic of that.  It was very very good!! Many things learned and much revelation given!!! :) I loved it!! Our zone meeting we had prior was fun! For "March Madness" we have a goal of 35 souls saved!!! We listened to President Dieter F. Uchtdorf's talk on "Lift Where you Stand" a few conferences back.  We than had this little elder try to pick up the piano by himself.  That was funny! Than we did it as a zone and after we knelt as a zone and prayed regarding our goal! It was a fun little training and it's something I've come to love throughout my mission.  Back home I would have never liked speaking in front of people or teaching but now I love it!! Oh how the mission does change! Not saying I'm good at it or anything, far from it! But it's fun so that's good:) And for lunch at the zone conference we had SUBWAY!!! :) Oh how it's been a long time! Felt like I was reunited with a dear friend!! Not island food for once! Even though island food is by far my fav now!!!!

Ya the conference was good and all else is for that matter!! Wednesday night as well we had 2 feeds from members!! One tongan and one samoan! So let the good times roll!! The gainage of the weight is once again increasing I feel!!  The one commandment that New Zealander's DO NOT keep is the Word of Wisdom I swear!! haha overeating is the norm! But I"m not complaining!! :) "physical blessings" as I say!!

Thurs we got to go on splits with the MTC!!! The MTC is in our zone so once every intake they'll come to the field and work with us!! It's way fun! I was with an elder whose older brother is in this mission! It was way fun, funny guy! Terrified he was though! A bit shocked, as was I. to what REAL missionary work is like!! haha So that was fun!! Than as a zone we are running an activity every other week that we just started.  Which is our Zone Cottage Evening! :) Every other Thurs night we get all the missionaries and all their investigators, especially sets and we have an activity with them.  It was the trial run but it went SO good! We plan to make it even more legit, with members and refreshments and what have you.  Our own fireside and the Manukau/Papatoetoe zone! So it's been fun what's been going on in the zone!! Things are looking really great!!

The rougher side of things... The zone was projected to baptize well over 25.  But everyone's sets fell on the last weekend of February.. So due to many reasons there was a lot of what we call "bleeding" throughout the zone and many of those souls were pushed back or fell through.. It was very hard to see.. The zone and the whole mission for that matter has struggled this last month so we're all trying to consecrate ourselves more fully and get it rolling again!!

But on the brighter side!!! :) We were privileged to save a soul!! Nancy!! She's a Maori lady in her 30s and she is SO cool!!!! It was such a fun baptism and she is so sincere and committed towards the gospel we love it!!!  Also my favorite thing about being a leader is going to everyone elses baptisms.  We went to some in my old area Papatoetoe 1st Ward! Where some of my converts were there!! :) Got to see my favs Junior and Allison and Vincent!!!! :) Junior gave a talk and it blew me away... One of those moments that just makes it ALL worth it.. To see the changes that family has made and to keep in touch with them as they have their eyes set on the temple is such a blessing and a miracle.. So that was way fun!! A little pay day!! Which is awesome on the mission!!

On Sunday our Japanese investigator came to church:) He doesn't speak to much English! ha so he always brings his translator he's the man! We watched the Resto DVD in class and had it in Japanese with english subtitles! And he received an answer! After we knelt as a class and let him pray to ask God if it was true and he said he felt a calm, warm feeling and he knows it's from God!! :) We can't communicate to well with him but the spirit can!!

Nancy with her baptism and confirmation kept telling us of this amazing cleansing power she felt and how it felt like she had no more guilt or sorrow.  That a great burden was lifted off her shoulders.. At the confirmation she said she felt a burning inside and just felt so happy!! Oh my goodness how my testimony has been strengthened so greatly on the mission that this divine work and church is what we say it is.. The only true and living church on the Earth.. Of this I testify! It is his church and we are so blessed to be a part of it!!

Some other funny stories happened this week! I don't like bible bashing too much but this reverand/minister of another church is a grandpa of an investigator of ours that wants to be baptized.  When he heard the "mormons" were at his grandaughters house trying to "steal" his granddaughter and destroy the family he came with all thoughts and intentions to contend.  We didn't know he was coming and he showed up... Moments like these throughout my mission have also strengthened my testimony so much.. He reaked of apostasy!! haha it was sad to see how blind this man was and to what extent he was going to to mock our faith.. From what I saw I would say he definantely isn't Christian whatsoever.  Though he thinks he is.. But I"m not the one to judge!! We were as friendly as could be and he was very hateful and hostile! So to say the least we're not teaching her anymore, and I pray for mercy on this man cause that entire family was so sweet and keen! And now he'll have their blood stained upon his garments for holding them in "his church" against their will!!! Anywho that was interesting! I've gotten better with such situations! SO many churches in New Zealand it's not even funny!! I've met ministers who started their church just weeks prior!! It's getting crazy but we know whose side we're fighting on;)

We had a stake missionary fireside last night and so SO many miracles occured that will unfold tonight as well!! Ill speak of it later!! But gotta go!! I miss you all and love you so much and wish you all the best!!!! :)

Feb. 19, 2012

Aloha!!!!!:)

Hello everybody!!!! :) Congratulations and a shout out to Amber and Russell for being married for all time and eternity!! How wonderful that is! Oh I'm so sad I missed it but so proud of you guys as well! Love you and best wishes for the beginning of your eternal journey with each other!!

Hope everyone is doing well and had a great week this last week! Things are going great here! Oh how I love South Aucks! It's not to pretty but the people are incredible and so loving! It's been so much fun! And I've really enjoyed my new companion Elder Byam.  He hasn't been out for long but he's the man! A very hard worker! It's been heaps of fun! Super super busy though!! And guess what I'm losing weight! haha We don't like taking to much time to eat because our area is so great we just love working in it! So I think I'm losin a bit, hopefully! Definantely not what I once was but there is hope of a resurrection! lol:) The ward here is great! Incredible, they do so much for us.  They find a lot of people for us to teach.  They come out with us a lot, it's just been awesome here! I've always wanted to serve in this ward so I'm grateful to be here at this time.

This last week we had our Zone Leader Council and also our Leadership Training.  Those were really good and I was able to learn a lot from them.  Always going to those makes me realize all the things that I'm either doing wrong or not doing! haha But it was really good:)  And we had a big missionary fireside for all the city zones last night.  That was really good and the investigators loved it.  So ya things are going awesome here! Lovin the area and the people! We've been working very hard as always which just makes everything a blast! So things have been good!! I definantely miss you all and hope you all the very best! Hope this next week is even better than the last! I love you all heaps!!! :) May God bless you and watch over you all in all that you do!!! :)

Feb 12, 2012 Goodbye to the Great North!!

Feb. 12, 2012 Back to South Aucks!!

Hey everybody!!! :) First of all congratulations to my sister Amber and Russell for what's coming this week!!! So excited for you guys and may the Lord bless you as you take this beautiful step in your life! I love you guys so much!!! :)

How is everyone?! I hope all is well as always!! Great to hear from you all and to hear all the good that is happening! Oh how the Lord is merciful!! Sounds like it's been a great week for everyone!! :) My week was super good!! But yes as you could see I left the Northland... Sad to say goodbye and it was pretty hard to as well! But it's all good because the Lord sent me to where I know I need to be..

So now I'm still the Senior Zone Leader but over Manukau/Papatoetoe:):):) One of the "big three" as they call it! Absolutely pumped to be back down here! It's been to long since I was last in the city!! So we're in Mangere over Thomas Rd. Ward.  Which is a well-known ward throughout the mission.  It's a powerhouse that's for sure!! We have an army of prospecitve missionaries who will come and be with us all day! haha it's so cool!! They're all way awesome! There's 3 districts in the zone and 11 companionships.  So it's been super super busy!!! I"m so grateful that the Lord is giving me the opportunity to sprint here at the end of my mission!! It's been a blast since I've been here so far!! We've enjoyed working so much in our area that we hardly ever eat!! haha but than our dinner appointments are massive islander feeds anyways as they are down here!! So I'm also scared still being in the car that I will put on heaps of weight before I come home! Hopefully not! but if I do than so be it! :)

So I'm stoked to be here!! And it's so cool because throughout my mission I"ve kept coming to this area or to this flat.  Like at the very beginning of my mission when I came to this ward with Elder Smith for 2 weeks.  And also heaps of other times before and after Niue, etc etc I keep ending up at this wards flat and I always had a feeling that I would be serving in this area someday.  And lo and behold here I am!!! :) So I"m very excited to be here and am looking forward to the work moving forward:)

My new companion's name is Elder Byam.  He's the man!! My first Canadian!! :) It's been fun with him he is a very hard worker! Grateful to be with a fire ball like him because it's gonna keep us both serving like never before!!!  It's also super good to be able to be around islanders again!! Just such loving, wonderful people!! The Maori's and Pakeha's(white folk) are definantely all good up in the North! But just not as accepting and loving as the Islanders are!! So i'm very excited to be around the "believing blood"!! I got to give a talk on Sunday and it's been awhile since I've stood in front of a ward that size!! Felt like back in Utah!! :) Oh how I love the mission!!!! I love every second of it!! It's been a sacred honor and privilege to serve our Master.. I know that he lives and that he is laboring along side with me.. I have seen his hands and know him.. His love and mercy are beyond my comrehension.. But I do know that he has provided us a way in which to be saved and that is through him... I love you all and hope you have another fantastic week!!!! :) May God bless you and watch over all of you.. Kia Kaha"be strong". I LOVE YOU!!! :)

Love Elder Devey

February 5, 2012 Glow worm Caves

February 5, 2012

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD  THE BIG 50!!!

Hey everybody!!! :) Just a big shout out to my old man big papa on hittin the 50!!! :) Congratulations dad!!! A life full of love, dedication, and sacrifice!! I'm sure you all agree that Dad has been a huge influence in all of our lives.. And if it wasn't for him I would not be where I am today.. I credit who I am to who he is.  Since I was young I always wanted to be just like him.  A missionary like he was, a husband like he is, and a wonderful father as he has always been for our family.. I love you dad and I hope you the best on your big day!! You definitely deserve it!!! :)

Well I hope you are all doing fantastic and that this last week was a great week for you all!! I love hearing from you all and am so grateful for your love, support, and prayers! Please keep it up because I need it very dearly!!!! :) This last week was another great week!! We've been working really hard! I beat one of my own personal records which is always fun to continually stretch and grow.  The other day we were blessed to talk with 109 of God's children in one day to invite them to come unto Christ!! It was really fun and enjoyed it very much doing it all in one day it was crazy!!! haha

Last pday was really fun!! We played ping pong with the district! I miss ping pong it's been far to long since I last played.  Than after that we went to Abbey caves to see gloworms!! That was so cool I'll attach pics.  Massive caves that go for ages and inside there's millions of glow worms all over and since it's so dark they look like stars all around you it was so cool!!! :) So that pday was a lot of fun!!! We're renting out the Kensington stadium again today with some members to play some basketball and volley.  Can't wait!!

We had tradeoffs this week as always and both of them went very well and were a lot of fun!! Learned a lot from those elders and we experienced some miracles in their areas.  We were able to invite a family to be baptized and they accepted the invitation so that was a beautiful miracle!! Miracles everywhere in the work of the Lord I love it!!! :) One of the tradeoffs with my favorite Elder Bills was a lot of fun!! We did heaps of service! Mowed a less-actives lawn, than our investigators behind them, and we saw that the neighbors next to them needed it as well so we knocked their door and offered our service! So that was fun:) Except the Jehovah witnesses were pretty upset by that.  They were hitting that area hard as they always do, good on em:/.  Right after their door aproach when the lady said no that's when we went and asked if she needed her lawn mowed and than we did it! They were off on the sidewalk giving us mean looks!! lol But just as Christ came not to be ministered unto but to minister so have we! We're here to serve and to help out in whatever way we can just as Christ did.  Not to force doctrine down their throats.  And than through that love and service that's how we find and the spirit does the rest of it:) So it's been good lately as always no reason to complain!!

Things have been super busy and we've had to do some random trips to Auckland just to move missionaries around.  The other day we were driving for 6 straight hours which is big here in New Zealand haha But things have been good!! At church on our ward bulletin board there were some pics of me back home!!! Haha Some members did it as a joke! I don't know if they got it off my facebook or what but it was my pre-mission photos! lol So i'll attach that pic as well! That was really funny! Probably Imrahn, the RM that we saranwrapped his car:)

We went out to Whangaruru all Saturday and for church on Sunday and that was a lot of fun!!! Love it out there!!! We got transfers this week and hopefully I don't go but I've been here for 6 months now so there's a good chance I do go!! But we'll see I hope i stay I love the people here and this has been my favorite area so far of the mission!!!

Well I love you all very much and hope you have another wonderful week!!! And may the Lord pour out blessings upon you and watch over you all in all that you do!!!!! Arohanui!!! Love you!!!
